INFORMATION SYSTEMS
FOR TRAVELLERS AND PERSONNEL

BEVAC Consulting Engineers created
a system, managing the connections between train arrivals and bus departures,
of which it not only did the design but the realisation as well (in the
form of a prototype).
The train station of Dinant (Belgium) was the first to receive the
installation, effectively put into service at the end of 1994.
The purpose of the system is:
- to increase the conveniences for public transport users by informing
them precisely on the arrival and departure times
of the busses and on the possibilities with respect to train-bus
and bus-bus connections;
- to limit the required transfer movements of the passengers and to
guarantee them a comfortable and reassuring
waiting time in case of bad weather;
- to optimise the number of platforms and in this way lower the costs
of infrastructure.
The design of such a system is in itself a European premiere.
This system is designed to function completely autonomous. Based on
the theoretical timetables, stored in memory, and on the moment of detection
of arrival of respectively train or bus, the system will optimise the connection
in function of pre-programmed parameters and will inform the passengers
as well as the bus drivers concerning the departure times of the next busses.
